1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 Under the leadership of Francisco Villarruel, the number of NCFR media entries increased to 97. NCFR increased its visibility nationally through press releases and contacts with reporters and was cited in  USA Today, the Associated Press, CBS Networks, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Also, several members appeared on TV, including William Doherty and Kay Hyatt.

2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 Outreach to Pacific Rim countries continued in efforts to establish Pacific Rim Family Life Education Certification.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 On March 23–24, Mary Jo Czaplewski, Executive Director emeritus, and Carol Matusicky, Director of the BC Council for Families, conducted successful seminars on family life education to over 800 teachers and school principals in Taipei, Taiwan. Czaplewski also traveled to South Korea and conducted a seminar for 200 students from Duksun Women’s National University in Seoul. She also met with representatives of the Korean Association for Family Relations to discuss ongoing relationships with NCFR.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 In mid-October, Czaplewski traveled to Singapore to present two seminars. One dealt with an overview of family life education in the United States, and the other focused on the professional development of family life educators. Arthur Ling, Director of the Fei Yue Counseling Center of Singapore, hosted these sessions as part of “Marriage Month.”

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 In August 2000, NCFR was awarded $22,000 from the Center for Mental Health Services to develop a series of publications for policymakers and the public on fostering resilience. It was completed in June 2001.

6 Leave a comment on paragraph 6 0 The NCFR Public Policy and Education Conference was held April 13–14 2000, in Washington, DC. Sixty NCFR members, in addition to many policy agency members of the DC area, participated. Margaret Feldman, NCFR’s Policy Representative, coordinated much of the program. Topics were diverse and included welfare reform, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency prevention, and federal funding opportunities. Attendees made issue briefings visit to Capitol Hill with visits to their senators, representatives, and legislative staffers. Thirty-nine offices from 29 states were visited.
