2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 A series of fact sheets and policy briefs were published and marketed with the grant money from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Fact sheets were “Assuring the Future: Family Life Education,” “Family Caregivers: Helping Families Meet the Needs of Older Adults,” “Health and Economic Well-Being of Rural Families,” and “Marriage Promotion in Low-Income Families.” The policy briefs included “Effective Mothering in Low-Income and Working Poor Families,” “Economic Stability and Financial Decision-Making in Low-Income and Working Poor Families,” and “Competing Stressors and Tensions in Low Income and Working Poor Families.”

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Eighteen hundred copies of each of these were mailed to national, state, and local policymakers throughout the United States. A result of this mailing was that Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida invited NCFR President Carol Darling to join his Florida Family Team. Other policymakers, such as the governor of New Mexico governor and the mayors of Indianapolis, IN, and Pittsburgh, PA, sent letters of appreciation.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 The Fourth Annual Policy and Education Conference was co-sponsored with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Washington, DC, April 10–11, 2003. The theme was “Families & Health.” Attendance was 80. Visits to Capitol Hill were conducted.

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 The Special Services to Families Award was given to Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) for her support of rural families and health. Four policy fact sheets were distributed.
