Sections and Other Activities in 1995–96

1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 Sections were involved in streamlining paper proposals for the Annual Conferences and creating ideas for raising their own funds to support their various activities.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Marilyn Bensman and Margaret Feldman represented NCFR at the UN Conference, “Habitat II,” in Istanbul, Turkey, as official NGO observers. They led a workshop there on “Family Needs and the Use of Space.” They also ran an exhibit of NCFR publications that were popular.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Feldman also attended the meetings of the “President’s Council on Women,” started by President Clinton as a follow-up to the Beijing World Conference on Women. Hillary Rodham Clinton was also involved.

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 Bensman served on many NGO UN committees, including the Family and Aging, Committee on the Status of Women, and the Committee on the Rights of the Child at UN Headquarters. Both Bensman and Feldman wrote quarterly columns in the NCFR Report.

7 Leave a comment on paragraph 7 0 Jessie Bernard, a long-time member of NCFR and an active member of the journals Board of Editors, passed away on October 6, 1996. Other leaders lost included former NCFR President Gerald Leslie (on November 1, 1996) and Sylvanus Duvall (on July 20, 1996).
