1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 The 1981 Annual Conference convened at the Marc Plaza Hotel, Milwaukee, WI, October 13–17. Sharon Price was program chair and chose the theme “Acting and Reacting: Families in the 1980s.” Attendees numbered over 1,025. Jane Burgess was the local arrangements chair.

2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 Keynote speakers included Elise Boulding of Dartmouth University, who spoke on “Faber: The Family as Maker of the Future.” A panel of speakers on the topic “Families Act on Religion: Religion Acts on Families” included Rabbi Jerome Folkman, Letha D. Scanzoni, Mary Cline Detrick, and Donald Conroy. The topic “Cross-Cultural Comparisons: Problems and Solutions” was discussed by Irving Tallman, Laszlo Cseh-Szombothy, Wilfried Dumon, and Carolyn Atteneave. Another panel included Bruce C. Hafen, Doris Jonas Freed, and Lynda Henley Walters, who discussed “The Law Acts on Families: Families Act on Laws.”

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Kate Garner‘s Presidential Address had as its topic “Acting and Reacting: Visions for Progress.” A discussion followed with Wayne Adams, Mary Catherine Beasley, Charlotte Burroughs-White, and Pran Nath Luthra.

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 The AAUW and the Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis sponsored a pre-conference workshop on “Families and the Working Environment.” Vera Mace and David Mace conducted a post-conference workshop on “Family Wellness” that was co-sponsored by the Family Action Section and the Association of Couples in Marital Enrichment.
