With NCFR President-elect David Mace spearheading the effort, the 1960 NCFR conference was merged into an International Conference on the Family, held in conjunction with the International Union of Family Organizations.

Among the 800 total attendees were 200 people representing 30 nations other than the United States. NCFR President Harold Christensen served as program chair, and Evelyn Millis Duvall coordinated international delegates. NCFR section leaders played a pivotal role by finding members to translate papers submitted for the conference.

President Dwight Eisenhower sent a telegram welcoming attendees, which was featured on the cover of the conference program.
