2002 Conference: Families Over the Life Course: Bridging Research and Practice

1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 The 64th Annual Conference was held in Houston, TX, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, November 19–24. The theme chosen by Alan Booth, conference program chair, was “Families Over the Life Course: Bridging Research and Practice.” Maxine Hammonds-Smith was local arrangements chair, and the Texas Council on Family Relations hosted the special Western Rodeo and Zydeco Dance on Saturday evening at the Brown Convention Center.

  • “Is Strengthening Marriage to Reduce the Divorce Rate a Workable Strategy for Policy and Intervention?” Panelists were Bill Doherty, Arlene Skolnick, Laura Sanchez, and Howard Markman, with Paul Amato presiding.
  • “How Can We Foster Resiliency in Children and Adolescents in Low-Income Families?” Panelists were Kristin Moore, Velma McBride Murray, and Douglas Coatsworth, with Cheryl Buehler presiding.
  • “Is Parent–Child Well-Being Getting Better or Worse Under Welfare Reform?” Panelists were Greg Duncan, Greg Acs, Karen Seccombe, and Theodora Ooms, with Pamela Monroe presiding.
  • “What are Future Prospects for Increasing Father Involvement in Child Rearing and Household Activities?” Panelists were Sara McLanahan, Scott Coltrane, James Levine, and William Allen, with Greer Litton Fox presiding.
  • “What Are Successful Approaches to University–Community Collaborations to Enhance Child and Parent Well-Being?” Panelists were Karen Bierman, Martha Farrell Erickson, Richard Spoth, and Stephen Small, with Alexis Walker presiding.
